Automotive repair paint: What is automotive primer?
The original primer for sedans is a coating directly sprayed on the surface of exposed sheet metal, including sheet metal phosphating, electrophoretic coating, and intermediate primer filling. It is the bottom layer of the entire car paint and requires excellent adhesion to the substrate, as well as good rust and corrosion resistance, oil resistance, and other characteristics.
When the paint on the exterior of a car is damaged, it is necessary to determine whether the car primer is damaged. If so, it is necessary to repair and spray paint in a timely manner to prevent rusting and corrosion of the sheet metal. Nowadays, repairing car paint may be innovative. The filling of pits is usually done with atomic ash, and then sprayed with primer.
The four main effects of car primer spraying: 1. Preventing sheet metal corrosion,; 2. Generally, primers have filling properties and can fill hidden pits and pinholes; 3. Spraying primer can provide good adhesion for the previous layer of paint film; 4. Block the impact of old paint layers or primers on the surface paint. Prevent the gloss of the topcoat from being absorbed by the substrate. The varieties of primers include plastic primer, phosphating primer, epoxy primer, Suash primer, 2K intermediate primer, atomic gray, etc.
Plastic primer is mainly applied to plastic substrates, such as car bumpers, which can add adhesion between the paint film and the plastic substrate, increase the fullness of the topcoat, and enhance the decorative effect of the topcoat. Plastic primer does not require mixing of paint materials, and can be directly sprayed using air spraying (i.e. spray gun), with thin spraying to prevent excessive spraying from affecting adhesion.
Phosphating primer is generally used during the production of sedans. Its paint film is firmly attached to the metal surface, and the mixing ratio is generally 4 to 1, which is 4 parts of the primer and 1 part of the phosphating solution. Air spraying is used, and the paint film thickness is 80-120um.
Epoxy primer: It is commonly used in industry. When the car sheet metal is severely exposed, rust removal is required and epoxy primer is sprayed to achieve rust prevention and corrosion prevention. The use of epoxy primer requires the addition of epoxy curing agent and epoxy diluent, with a mixing ratio of 4:1 to 0.3. Air spraying is used, and 2-3 layers are wet sprayed.
Suhuishi: One component primer is applied to seal and fill the sand holes in the substrate. It has a fast drying speed and does not require a curing agent. The mixing ratio with the diluent is 1:1. Due to its fast drying speed, it is only suitable for repairing and spraying parts of sedans, and is not suitable for large-scale spraying construction.
2K Intermediate Primer: Compared to Suash Primer, it has superior filling performance, stronger covering power, enhances the weather resistance and stone resistance of the paint film, improves the gloss and fullness of the topcoat, and is more excellent in light and color retention than Suash Primer. It needs to be used together with 2K Intermediate Primer Curing Agent, with a mixing ratio of 4:1 and air spraying of 2-3 layers.
Atomic ash is also classified as a type of car primer. Generally, the repair process for car paint includes epoxy primer, atomic ash, intermediate primer, base paint layer, and clear paint layer. He is mainly used to fill in the sunken areas of car maintenance and fill in large areas after car sheet metal. The mixing ratio with curing agent is generally 100g to 3g.
