What are the components of car repair paint
Regarding the composition of car paint, it mainly consists of four parts: film-forming substances, pigments, solvents, and additives. The effects of different component compositions may vary. Automotive repair paint is briefly analyzed as follows:
1、 Film forming substances. It is the main component of car paint, and the biggest effect is to keep the pigment in a bright state, making it durable and able to adhere to the surface of objects. It is the substance that determines the type of car paint. It is generally made of natural resins modified with dry or semi dry oil, such as rosin, artificial resins, and synthetic resins. Usually, its durability, adhesion, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and toughness are adjusted and improved by adding plasticizers and catalysts.
2、 Pigments. Because pigments are one of the two non evaporative substances in car paint, they give the topcoat color and durability, together giving the paint a covering power, improving strength and adhesion, altering gloss, improving fluidity, and coating function.
3、 Solvent. As an evaporative component in car paint, its main effect is to fully dissolve the resin in the paint film, allowing the paint to be modified normally. And high-quality solvents can improve the coating function and film characteristics of car topcoats, enhance gloss, reduce paint mesh, and then reduce polishing workload, which together also helps with more accurate color matching. In addition to the existing solvents in the paint, it is also used as a diluent to dilute the paint and make its viscosity suitable for the coating requirements.
4、 Additives. At present, the use of additives is often right or wrong. Although their proportion in car paint does not exceed 5%, their effectiveness is very important. There are curing agents that can accelerate dryness and enhance gloss, retarders that slow down dryness, and matting agents that can weaken gloss. Some additives have a comprehensive effect, which is to reduce wrinkling, accelerate dryness, prevent whitening, and provide chemical substances.
